Arsenal manager confirms talks with Dortmund for Aubameyang
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed they are in talks with Borussia Dortmund for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but conceded they are not close to agreeing a deal.
The Gunners announced the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United on Monday evening and are hopeful of landing his former Dortmund team-mate, Aubameyang, before the end of the month.
Arsenal delegates are currently in Germany discussing Aubameyang’s transfer but Wenger has conceded they are not close to agreeing anything with their Bundesliga counterparts.
“Confident or not confident, I don’t know,” Sky Sports quote Wenger as saying. “You never know how close you are. This is the king of thing – he is one of the possible movements, but we have other things in mind as well. We have plenty of opportunities and the final decision is not made.
“At the moment we are not close to any deal, Aubameyang or anybody else.”
Aubameyang was left out of Dortmund’s squad for Friday’s 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin but has since returned to first-team training with Peter Stoger’s side this week.
Since the start of last season, Aubameyang has scored 44 Bundesliga goals. Of those, 37 have been clear-cut chances – a league high in that period.
