Watford sell Odion Ighalo to China in potential £25m deal
Watford striker Odion Ighalo has joined Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai in a deal worth an initial £20m plus £5m in add-ons, the Premier League club have announced.
The Hornets have previously rejected two big offers from China for the Nigeria international in the past but have finally accepted an offer from the Far East after losing patience with Ighalo’s poor form.
Ighalo, 27, has spent the last three seasons with Watford and his performances in the first two campaigns had seen him linked with a big money move to Manchester United.
However, the 27-year-old’s form has tailed off dramatically since the start of 2016 and he has now become the latest player to swap Europe for the riches of China.
Ighalo scored 13 league goals in his first 19 Premier League appearances for Watford before watching that rate drop to just three goals in 36 appearances from the start of 2016.
