John Obi Mikel has revealed there is a better atmosphere in the Chelsea dressing room under Guus Hiddink now Jose Mourinho has gone.
Chelsea sacked Mourinho over a week ago following such a catastrophic start to the season and reappointed Hiddink as interim manager until the end of the season.
The Premier League champions cantered to victory against Sunderland with Hiddink watching on from the stands but have failed to win in either of his first two games in charge.
Hiddink’s men were first held to a 2-2 draw at home to Chelsea before offering little in a 0-0 draw with Manchester United, but Mikel insists spirits are better without Mourinho despite still being in a terrible run of form.
“We’ve moved on and the atmosphere has improved since the change of manager. It’s fine now, we’ve just not been getting results,” Mikel is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
“Jose is a fantastic manager and will always be a fantastic guy. But sometimes football is a cruel game and you have to move on.
“He came back to the club a second time and won two trophies but now he’s gone and we have to move on. Is it the right decision? Who knows? We’ll only see in the future.”
Chelsea are currently 14th, three points above the bottom three and unbeaten since changing manager. However, they need to turn draws into wins if they are to have any chance of cutting down the 15 point deficit currently standing in their way of a finish in the Champions League positions.
