‘Impossible’ to sign Costa, says European giants

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo admits it is ‘almost impossible’ for the club to re-sign Diego Costa from Chelsea in the summer.

Costa, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this season and is reportedly desperate to return to Spain in the summer.

A return to Atletico would make sense, but the chances of that are slim, according to Cerezo.

“He has a contract with Chelsea and it has to be respected,” Cerezo is quoted as saying by AS, via Football Espana.

“Negotiating with Chelsea would be very hard, almost impossible. He is a star at Chelsea.”

Costa started the season poorly but his performances have picked up since Jose Mourinho was sacked in December.

In fact, the Chelsea frontman has played a direct hand in 17 goals in his last 16 matches (11 goals, six assists) for the Blues in all competitions having only managed to contribute to five goals in his first 21 appearances of the season (four goals, one assist).
