Liverpool's hopes of signing striker hang in the balance

The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic could scupper any hopes Timo Werner may have moving to the Premier League, with Liverpool leading the way for the frontman, claims RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche. 

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Germany international in recent months, with head coach Jurgen Klopp believed to be a huge fan of his compatriot. 

However, the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak means any chances of moving to England at present are slim. 

Football across the world has ground to a halt to help combat the virus, and Krosche believes the young forward may have to remain in Germany as a result.  

"It is clear that Timo has attracted interest from other clubs for his great performances with his goals and assists," Krosche is quoted as saying by Sport1 via The Daily Mirror. 

"England has the same problems as we do. The crisis affects not just one league, it has a global impact, and we cannot say whether things will be the same in six months."

Werner is contracted to RB Leipzig until 2023, so they are in a strong position to retain 24-year-old, who has scored 21 league goals this season.
