Manchester United star asks to join Real Madrid this summer
David de Gea has asked Manchester United to step aside and let him join Real Madrid in a record deal worth €75m (£63.4m) this summer, reports Marca.
The 26-year-old was due to join Madrid in the summer of 2015 only for the deal to collapse on the final day of the transfer window before going to to sign a new long-term contract at United.
However, De Gea has re-emerged as Madrid’s top transfer target this summer as Zinedine Zidane’s side look set to find a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas, who left the club the same summer they first tried to sign De Gea.
The Spain international is alleged to have put his house in England up for sale as a return to Madrid gathers pace and now the goalkeeper is reported to have asked for United’s blessing to sanction a sale this summer.
De Gea is understood to have held those talks with the club prior to their 3-0 win away to Sunderland, which the Spaniard was coincidentally dropped for, although Jose Mourinho claimed he had a small injury.
No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League than De Gea this season (14).
