LIGUE 1 PREVIEW: Champions League the aim for Lyon and Rennes

There’s little doubt as to the top game in Ligue 1 this week, though it doesn’t come until the very last game of the round. Rolland Courbis’ Rennes side play host to Lyon, with the two teams separated by just one point in fifth and third respectively.

For the hosts all eyes will once again be on teenager Ousmane Dembele, who is now the fourth highest rated player in France’s top-flight (7.69) having notched a hat-trick under the watchful eyes of the scouts of Europe’s elite last week. That will likely be the case once again with OL also packed with promising young talent, not least the fit again Corentin Tolisso and 19-year old forward Maxwell Cornet.

Meanwhile Nice, who are sandwiched between Sunday night’s opponents, have a tough trip to face in-form Montpellier, with the likes of Caen, Saint Etienne and Nantes all queuing up behind them in a tight race for a European berth.

Elsewhere, in Sunday’s early kick-off it’s top against bottom as PSG aim to move a step closer to tying up the title in March when they travel to Troyes. Laurent Blanc’s side will be in buoyant mood following their Champions League progression so the hosts will be wary of another hiding having lost the reverse fixture 4-1.
