Everton have held initial talks with Sam Allardyce’s representatives as the Merseysiders continue their search for Ronald Koeman’s successor, reports The Daily Mail.
The Toffees sacked Koeman at the start of last week and have placed former U23s manager David Unsworth in temporary control until a permanent appointment is confirmed.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche is thought to be the frontrunner for the vacant position but it has also emerged that Wolves head coach Nuno Santos is considering an offer from the Premier League strugglers.
Everton want a new manager in place for the international break and are now sounding out Allardyce to see whether he would be interested in coming out of retirement.
Allardyce has been out of work since announcing his shock retirement at the end of last season but is thought to be open minded about a potential return to management.
The 63-year-old would prefer another crack at international football after his dream job with England only lasted 67 days, but it’s unlikely he would get the opportunity in his career to manage a club better than Everton.
Unsworth’s side are currently third from bottom after winning just two of their first 10 Premier League matches, while they are also on course to crash out of the Europa League group stages.
Only Allardyce’s former club, Palace (21), have conceded more Premier League goals than Everton (20) this season.
