West Ham hope to conclude a deal for Javier Hernandez in the next week as Slaven Bilic looks to sign a new striker, reports The Daily Mirror.
The Hammers have been in the market for a new striker for the last two summers and Bilic’s side will hope to finally hit the jackpot with the former Manchester United striker.
Jose Mourinho has previously reiterated he would not have allowed Hernandez to leave Old Trafford, but is not thought to be in for the Mexico international despite the fact he only has a £13m release clause.
It was reported that West Ham would baulk at Hernandez’s current £130,000-a-week wages but now the east London outfit are ready to make the 29-year-old the club’s highest paid player in order to prize him back to the Premier League.
West Ham have been heavily linked with moves for Olivier Giroud and Kelechi Iheanacho but will reportedly step up their interest in Leicester’s Islam Slimani when Iheanacho completes his move to the King Power Stadium.
Hernandez has spent the last two years in Germany with Leverkusen, scoring 28 Bundesliga goals in 54 games during that period. Of players that have scored at least 20 Premier League goals since August 2010, only three players require fewer minutes per goal than Hernandez (1 every 130.2 minutes).
