Manchester United agree Fernandes deal with medical set

Manchester United made a decisive breakthrough in talks to sign Bruno Fernandes on Tuesday night and now the Sporting ace is on his way to undergo his medical, claims The Daily Mirror.

Talks between United and Sporting were at impasse for over a week but Sporting surprisingly backed down in negotiations.

Sporting were demanding £68m up front from United but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side made it clear they would not pay that much.

Barcelona's late interest threatened to derail United's plans completely but Sporting buckled and accepted United's bid of £46.6m plus £21.2m in add-ons.

United kept tabs on Fernandes during the summer but ultimately opted against pursuing a deal as they prioritised other areas.

However, the Red Devils feel the Portugal international has made huge strides in his development over the last six months and is the perfect attacking midfielder for them.

Fernandes is due to land in England on Wednesday when he will undergo his medical and agree personal terms.

The 25-year-old could even be in the stands for United's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City on Wednesday night and make his debut against Wolves this weekend.

Fernandes has remarkably played a direct hand in 48 goals in 50 league appearances since the beginning of last season (28 goals, 20 assists).

United desperately need goals and creativity from midfield areas and Solskjaer believes Fernandes will do just that.

Not only is the Sporting star deadly around the box but he is also hard-working off the ball, illustrated by a return of 1.9 tackles per game in the league since the beginning of last season.
