Manchester City boss eyes reunion with Tottenham target

Pep Guardiola is ready to rival Jose Mourinho's Tottenham for the signing of ex-Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, claims The Daily Record.

Hojbjerg will leave Southampton at the end of the season after failing to renew his current deal, which has entered the final 12 months.

Ralph Hasenhuttl stripped the 24-year-old of the captain's armband as a result, with Tottenham and Ajax keen on the £15m-rated midfielder.

However, it has now emerged Hojbjerg is also on City's radar, with Guardiola keen on a reunion with the midfielder.

Guardiola was Bayern manager when Hojbjerg stepped into the first-team set-up in 2013 and the Spaniard had high hopes for the midfielder.

Southampton eventually prised him away from Bayern in 2016 after a couple of loan stints in Germany and he has really kicked on this season.

In fact, Hojbjerg has won possession in the midfield third at least 30 more times than any other player in the Premier League this season (175).
