Jack Wilshere close to signing new Arsenal deal

Jack Wilshere is edging closer to agreeing terms to a new long-term Arsenal deal, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The England international’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides.

Arsene Wenger challenged Wilshere earlier in the season to prove his fitness in a bid to win a new contract and the 26-year-old has managed that.

The Gunners finally started talks with Wilshere’s representatives at the start of the year and now the Arsenal No.10 is close to putting pen to paper on new terms, even though it’s reported he will have to accept a pay cut.

The proposed new terms will see Wilshere’s basic salary reduced to £90,000-a-week but loaded with incentives that mean he can still earn his current £110,000-a-week salary.

Wilshere has started eight of Arsenal’s last 10 Premier League matches, playing some of his best football in years after several injury-wrecked campaigns.

Despite that, Arsenal actually have a far superior win ratio in the Premier League this season when Wilshere has not started (55.6%) compared to when he has (37.5%).
