Manchester City turn attention to Bayern defender to bolster backline

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is looking to sign David Alaba from Bayern Munich this summer as he looks to land a new left-back, reports The Daily Mirror.

Guardiola is unhappy with his current left-back options, with Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandar Zinchenko both failing to impress the Spaniard.

And while City have been linked with a move for Lucas Digne and Ben Chilwell of Everton and Leicester, respectively, Guardiola is seeking to link up with Alaba again.

The Austrian has just 12 months left to run on his current deal with Bayern and has hinted that he fancies a new challenge elsewhere.

Indeed, Bayern could elect to sell Alaba this summer rather than lose him on a free next year.

That will appeal to City, but a host of Europe's top sides have also been courting Alaba in the recent months, including LaLiga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The 28-year-old's versatility is an added bonus for Guardiola, with Alaba operating at centre-back for Bayern this season on the back of Alphonso Davies' emergence as one of the best left-backs in Europe.

Bayern, though, remain hopeful that the Austria international will sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena.
