Premier League team news and prediction: Chelsea vs Liverpool

Liverpool kicked off their title defence with an entertaining 4-3 win over newly-promoted Leeds and they'll look to follow up that victory with another three points when they travel to Chelsea today.

Like the Reds, Chelsea, too, earned all three points in their first game of the season as they earned a 3-1 win at Brighton. There are huge expectations on the Blues in 2020/21 on the back of a summer of hefty investment and neutral fans will hope to bear witness to another entertaining clash when these two face off in the game of the weekend.

When is kick off?

Sunday 20th September, 16:30 GMT

Where is the game?

Stamford Bridge, London

Where can I watch it?

Previous Meetings

Chelsea emerged victorious when these two last faced off at Stamford Bridge, picking up a 2-0 win to book their spot in the next round of the FA Cup. However, the last meeting between both teams ended in an entertaining 5-3 win for Liverpool at Anfield. On the night they lifted the Premier League title, the Reds played out one of the games of the season on Merseyside and fans will hope to witness another goalfest in west London today.

Team News

For Chelsea, supporters are yet to see new signings Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva in action and they may have to wait that bit longer to see the latter, who remains short of fitness. The former pair are unlikely to make their debut before the month is out. Youngster Billy Gilmour joins Chilwell and Ziyech on the sidelines.

Head coach Frank Lampard will hope summer arrival Timo Werner is fit enough to make his home debut, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Christian Pulisic will also be assessed ahead of the welcome of Liverpool.

In the Liverpool camp, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is Jurgen Klopp's only injury concern, though it was unlikely he would have started here. New signings Thiago and Diogo Jota, who joined on Friday and Saturday, respectively, weren't registered in time to come into the reckoning.

Probable XIs

Premier League team news and prediction: Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea (4222) - Kepa; James, Christensen, Zouma, Azpilicueta; Kante, Kovacic; Mount, Havertz; Abraham, Werner

Liverpool (433) - Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Key Battle - Kepa vs Alisson

Premier League team news and prediction: Chelsea vs Liverpool

The two most expensive goalkeepers in world football lock horns once more. Kepa was at fault for Leandro Trossard's goal in Chelsea's eventual 3-1 win over Brighton and the Spaniard did little to suggest he warrants the mantle of Chelsea's number one with another sub-par display. As the Blues close in on Edouard Mendy, this is his likely to be his final game as Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper.

The same cannot be said of Alisson, who continues to justify his tag as one of the finest goalkeepers in the game. While he conceded three last week, the Brazilian remains one of the best in the business, but he'll need to be on top of his game to keep the Chelsea offensive at bay in the capital this afternoon
