2020/21 so far

Both Liverpool and Arsenal have won their opening two league matches of the season and are seeking to make it three from three tonight. Liverpool have secured victories over Leeds and Chelsea, with the latter win surprisingly more comfortable than the former, and booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup with a 7-2 win at Lincoln last week.

Arsenal, meanwhile, opened the campaign with a 3-0 win at Fulham and were made to work for their second league success of 2020/21 as they bagged a late goal against West Ham to earn a 2-1 home win over the Hammers. A 2-0 win at Leicester means both Arsenal and Liverpool lock horns once more at Anfield on Thursday night in the Carabao Cup in what will be the third meeting between the pair since their Community Shield clash at the end of August.

Team News

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper Alisson, who picked up a knock in training over the weekend. Thiago may also have to wait to make his full debut, but he will have a late fitness test. With Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all set to miss out, Joe Gomez's return is a boost for Klopp and that should see Fabinho move back into midfield after his impressive showing at centre-back against Chelsea. Joel Matip isn't expected to return until after the October international break.

Kieran Tierney and Cedric Soares both face late fitness tests for Arsenal, though only the former was likely to have started at Anfield. David Luiz is available after suffering a neck injury before the opening weekend of the campaign and he played the full 90 in midweek, which boosts Mikel Arteta's defensive ranks, particularly with Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers still sidelined. Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli again miss out, while Sokratis is close to a return following a calf problem.

Probable XIs

Premier League team news and prediction: Liverpool vs Arsenal

Liverpool (433) - Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Keita, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Arsenal (343) - Leno; Luiz, Gabriel, Tierney; Bellerin, Xhaka, Ceballos, Saka; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang

Key Battle - Mohamed Salah vs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Premier League team news and prediction: Liverpool vs Arsenal

Mohamed Salah has started the season brilliantly, bagging a hat-trick on the opening weekend of the campaign, and he'll be looking to continue his good record against Arsenal when the pair clash tonight. Indeed, Salah has scored five league goals in six meetings with the Gunners on the back of his arrival from Roma in 2017 and in all three home league clashes.

Conversely, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is yet to score a league goal against Liverpool after joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund. A run of four games without a goal doesn't make for great reading, but since making his debut for the Gunners in February 2018, he has scored 55 league goals; only Salah (57) has bagged more in that period.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal
