Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann on loan, claims The Daily Express.
Barcelona are in financial turmoil and need to cut their eye-watering wage bill in order to register their new signings and renew Leo Messi's contract.
The Spanish side are struggling to find buyers for the likes of Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho and may have to offload Griezmann as a result.
Chelsea are on the market for a new striker this summer after defensive midfielder Jorginho finished the 2020/21 Premier League campaign as their top scorer (7).
Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland remains Chelsea's top transfer target but the Blues accept they face a real challenge to get that deal over the line.
The Bundesliga outift insist Haaland will not leave this summer and it has been suggested only a bid in the region of €170m would make them think twice.
While a massive offer is certainly not out of the realms of possibility as far as Chelsea are concerned, Haaland has a release clause of just €75m that is active next summer.
Therefore Chelsea may turn to Griezmann for a season-long loan deal before rekindling their interest in Haaland in 2022.
Griezmann wouldn't necessarily solve Chelsea's goalscoring woes up front, however. He hasn't reached 20+ goals in a single league campaign since 2014/15 (22).
