Chelsea step up interest in £31m rated Serie A star

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has spoken to Miralem Pjanic’s representatives and discovered the Roma midfielder has a £31m buyout clause, reports The Times.

The Blues are expected to be very active in the summer transfer window and have emerged as admirers of Pjanic in recent weeks.

Pjanic, 25, has been one of the standout midfielders in Serie A this season and has been billed as one of the players – alongside teammate Radja Nainggolan - Antonio Conte wants to bring to Stamford Bridge if he is made Guus Hiddink’s successor at the end of the season.

Chelsea have apparently stepped up their interest in the midfielder after discovering his buyout clause and have made a formal enquiry to Roma regarding a summer move.

The Blues would have no trouble meeting the £31m clause or the £60,000-a-week wages and Pjanic, who has developed a reputation from set-pieces, is reportedly open to making the switch despite the fact Chelsea are unlikely to be without Champions League football.

Since the start of last season only Hakan Calhanoglu (7) has scored more free kicks than Pjanic across Europe's top five leagues (6).
