RB Leipzig acquire Chelsea youngster

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have beaten off competition from Aston Villa to the signing of Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu.

The all-action Wales international had been courted by the Villans following their Premier League return, but have lost out to RB Leipzig for the teenager.

Chelsea are keen for Ampadu to gain first team action having struggled for regular minutes under Maurizio Sarri last season.

Ampadu was omitted from Frank Lampard’s pre-season squad for their trip the far east in order to complete his loan switch away from Stamford Bridge.

The hope now is that the Welshman gains game time for the Champions League side after RB Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga last season.

RB Leipzig are also closing in on the capture of Ademola Lookman, who spent time with the German side during a successful loan stint in 2017/18.

Ampadu failed to register a single minute of Premier League action last season, but made three Europa League appearances, returning a 91.6% pass success rate in the process.
