Everton beat Chelsea to Brazilian attacker

Everton are on the verge of signing former Shakhtar Donetsk forward Bernard after fending off late interest from Chelsea, reports The Daily Mail.

Bernard is currently a free agent after rejecting a huge contract offer from Ukrainian club Shakhtar and is now poised to move to England.

Serie A giants Inter where also tracking the 25-year-old, while Chelsea were reportedly unsuccessful with a late move for the Brazil international.

Everton manager Marco Silva is understood to have played an integral part in convincing Bernard to snub their European rivals in favour of the Toffees.

Bernard will now undergo his medical before becoming the third summer signing at Goodison Park.

Everton have already bolstered their offensive options with one Brazilian and now Bernard is set to join Richarlison at the club.

Shakhtar spent €25m to sign Bernard in 2013 and it will go down as a huge coup for Everton once Bernard officially becomes a Toffee.

Bernard finished last season’s Champions League campaign as Shakhtar’s joint-top goalscorer (3), even netting in the club’s shock 2-1 win over Manchester City.
