Manchester United identify top midfield target

Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes has emerged as a summer transfer target for Manchester United, claims the London Evening Standard.

United sold Marouane Fellaini to Chinese side Shandong Luneng in January and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told the club they need a replacement for the Belgian.

The Red Devils are already preparing blockbuster deals for Borussia Dortmund teenager Jadon Sancho and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, it has now emerged that United have added Sporting star Fernandes to their list of potential transfer targets.

Fernandes almost left Sporting for nothing last summer but eventually signed a new deal running until the summer of 2022.

The 24-year-old has been a standout performer for Sporting in the last few years and he has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Fernandes failed to make any real impression at the 2018 World Cup and there will be questions asked about his suitability to Premier League football.

The Sporting midfielder is the only player in the Liga NOS this season to register double figures for goals (13) and assists (10).
