West Brom announced on Tuesday evening the arrival of Everton midfielder Gareth Barry on a one-year deal that will run until June 2018.
Tony Pulis has been looking for an experienced central midfielder since Darren Fletcher joined Stoke at the end of last season and has finally landed Barry.
The former England international dropped down the pecking order at Everton over the summer and West Brom have successfully managed to prise the 36-year-old away from Goodison Park with the allure of regular first team football.
“I want to come and help the team. That’s always been the same for me wherever I have played,” Barry told the club’s official website.
“I want to help the team improve, work hard and hopefully add quality.”
The Baggies have now made four signings this summer but Barry will arguably be the most important given Pulis’ desire to have an experienced head in midfield.
Barry is only four appearances away from equalling Ryan Giggs’ Premier League record (632 games) of being the most capped player in the history of the competition and he will almost certainly surpass that mark in the next few months.
