Chelsea have announced Antonio Conte has agreed improved terms for the remaining two-years of his existing deal that is due to expire in the summer of 2019.
Conte’s future has been unclear all summer despite the fact Chelsea were willing to make him the highest-paid manager in the club’s history off the back of leading the Blues to the Premier League title in his first year in charge.
Chelsea successfully fended off interest from Serie A giants Inter at the start of the summer but the club have endured a difficult summer in the transfer market leading to suggestions Conte would walk out as he did at Juventus in 2014.
However, the Premier League champions have successfully managed to ensure Conte’s immediate future will be at Stamford Bridge, although it’s curious there has only been a revision of his original terms when Chelsea were initially looking to hand the Italian a fresh four-year deal.
“I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Chelsea,” Conte told the club’s official website. “We worked extremely hard in our first year to achieve something amazing, which I am very proud of. Now we must work even harder to stay at the top.
“The Chelsea fans have given me so much support since I arrived here one year ago and it is important we continue to succeed together.”
In Conte’s first season in charge he led Chelsea to their second Premier League title in the last three seasons and also finished as losing finalists to Arsenal in the FA Cup final. Overall, he finished last season with a win ratio of 78.7%.
