United set to battle with Real for Swiss defender

Manchester United are hopeful of securing a deal for highly-rated Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez this month, writes Bild.

United have been on the look out for a new left-back once it was confirmed Luke Shaw would miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.

Rodriguez has emerged as a top target for manager Louis van Gaal in recent weeks, though the Premier League outfit face competition from Real Madrid for his signature.

Wolfsburg would not be willing to allow the Switzerland international to leave on the cheap either, with the German publication suggesting the Bundesiga side are holding out for a bid of around €30m.

Rodriguez, 23, has emerged as a key member for the German team, with his WhoScored rating this season (7.37) the second best of all players at the club.
