Liverpool close in on new star striker

Liverpool are closing in on RB Leipzig hitman Timo Werner, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira via the Sunday Express. 

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Werner as he seeks to bolster his attack despite Liverpool's unrivalled march towards the Premier League title. 

The RB Leipzig sensation has been the subject of interest from a host of Europe's top teams, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich also courting the young forward. 

Werner has a clause in his contract that can be triggered with a £50m, which should kick off a mad scramble for his services this summer. 

Indeed, only Robert Lewandowski (23) has scored more Bundesliga goals than Werner (20) this season and his fine form in front of goal has seen his stock soar. 

Liverpool boast one of the most feared frontlines in Europe, but Klopp wouldn't pass up the opportunity to sign a striker of Werner's quality it it improved their chances of a likely title defence.
