AC Milan bid £39m for Manchester United target

AC Milan have made the first move in a bid to sign Manchester United target Andrea Belotti after tabling a £39m offer for the Torino striker, reports Sky Sports.

Belotti has been heavily linked with a move away from Torino after enjoying a breathtaking campaign with the Serie A side last season and Milan have stepped up their long-standing interest in the striker.

The Italy International has a €100m (£86.8m) release clause in his current Torino deal but Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side are reportedly open to selling the 23-year-old for £56.5m, which would be nearly 10 times what they paid to sign Belotti from Palermo in 2015 (£6.5m).

United are also interested in signing Belotti this summer but will only turn to the Torino striker if they fail to get a deal completed for Real Madrid ace Alvaro Morata.

However, it remains to be seen whether Milan would be willing to match Torino’s valuation of Belotti as it has now emerged Diego Costa is free to leave Chelsea and he would represent a more affordable option for the Serie A giants.

Only Edin Dzeko (29) and Dries Mertens (28) scored more goals in Serie A last season than Belotti (26).
