Mourinho warns Real Madrid off Manchester United star

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has warned Real Madrid not to waste their time trying to sign David de Gea this summer.

De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid in the past and Zinedine Zidane’s side will be in the market for a new goalkeeper at the end of the season.

The Spain international’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season but United have the option to extend that by a further 12 months.

However, Mourinho’s side want to reward De Gea with a new long-term deal to end reports of Madrid’s interest and the United manager has told his former club to look elsewhere for a new goalkeeper.

“I see him [De Gea] staying here,” Mourinho told Spanish TV station La Sexta, via The Daily Telegraph. “I do not know Real Madrid’s intentions but, if I were them, I would think of another player.”

Madrid are widely expected to move for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has flirted with the idea of returning to Spain all season, although new reports suggest they are eyeing Croatian starlet Karlo Letica.

AC Milan wonderkid Gianluigi Donnarumma may also be available this summer with reports the Serie A side are expected to sign Napoli veteran Pepe Reina at the end of the season.

De Gea has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this season (15).
