Wolves and Bournemouth rival Aston Villa for £30m-rated midfielder

Aston Villa face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Wolves and Bournemouth for Leeds midfielder Kalvin Philipps, claims The Daily Mirror.

Dean Smith’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Philipps since being promoted to the Premier League last season, as the Villa boss looks to bolster his midfield options for the new season.

Villa have already offered £11m for the 23-year-old but were left shocked after Leeds slapped a stunning £30m price tag on the midfielder’s head.

The newly promoted Premier League outfit have already made seven permanent signings this summer but have been forced to pay over-inflated fees for the likes of Tyrone Mings and Matt Targett.

Bristol City also quoted Villa £30m for centre-back Adam Webster earlier in the window and now they are unlikely to land top target Philipps after being priced out of a move.

Villa also now face competition from Wolves and Bournemouth, who are both keen on the Leeds star after he was named in the EFL Team of the Season in the Championship last term.

Phillips, who is naturally a defensive midfielder but can also play in defence, made 44 league starts for Leeds last season and garnered a WhoScored rating of 6.98 in that period.

The Leeds ace ranked in the top-10 for possession won in the midfield third in the Championship (excluding play-offs) last season (167).
