Arsenal and Tottenham to go head to head for Schalke youngster
Arsenal are ready to rival Tottenham in the race to sign Schalke youngster Leon Goretzka, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 22-year-old has turned down a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit and with 12 months left to run on his current contract, Schalke could be forced to sell the midfielder this summer rather than lose him on a free.
His potential availability has alerted north London pair Arsenal and Tottenham, who are set to thrash it out in the race to sign Goretzka.
Arsenal are set to lose Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Oil this summer, with the Schalke man a potential replacement for the latter.
Tottenham, meanwhile, will be without Dele Alli for their next three European fixtures and could use a player of Goretzka’s calibre to ease his absence.
The Premier League pair, though, could face competition for his signature from Serie A giants Juventus, who are monitoring the player’s situation.
Schalke are understandably keen to retain Goretzka’s services, but could find it hard to retain his services should they fail to qualify for Europe.
