Fulham capture Manchester United defender on loan

Fulham have announced the arrival of Timothy Fosu-Mensah on a season-long loan deal from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Fosu-Mensah spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace and Jose Mourinho’s side have allowed the versatile defender to get regular playing time elsewhere.

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a temporary move to German club Hertha Berlin earlier in the summer but has now joined newly-promoted Fulham.

“I have a good feeling about the club. It has a nice history, it’s a nice club,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m happy to be here and I want to keep progressing.”

The Netherlands international can play at centre-back and right-back and United’s decision to let him leave raises eyebrows considering they failed to strengthen their defence on deadline day.

With summer signing Diogo Dalot injured until next month and Antonio Valencia currently sidelined, Fosu-Mensah could have proved useful at right-back for Mourinho during their first few games.

Fulham have now made three signings on deadline day, following the arrivals of Sergio Rico from Sevilla and Bristol City’s Joe Bryan.

Fosu-Mensah started 17 league games for Palace last season and made a further four appearances from the bench. In that time, Palace had a far better win ratio when he did not start (38.1%) compared to when he did feature from the off (17.6%).
