Adam Bogdan is expected to return to Liverpool from his loan spell with Wigan after suffering a season-ending knee injury.
The 29-year-old, who joined Wigan on a season-long loan deal during the summer, was stretchered off during the second half of their 0-0 draw against Barnsley at the weekend.
Scan results have already revealed Bogdan has suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament, which means he is not expected to play for at least another six months.
The Hungary international joined Liverpool from Bolton in 2015 but dropped further down the pecking order during the summer following the arrival of Loris Karius from Bundesliga side Mainz.
Bogdan has started in all 17 of Wigan’s matches in the Championship this season but he wasn’t able to prevent their disastrous start to the season. The Latics have only won three matches this season and are three points adrift from safety.
However, they do have the best defensive record among the sides in the bottom seven, having only conceded 19 goals, which is to Bogdan’s credit.
