Chelsea manager poised to sign bumper new deal

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is on the verge of signing a contract extension that will make him the highest-paid manager in the club’s history, reports The Guardian.

Conte has been heavily linked with a return to Italy after just 12 months at the club but Chelsea have no interest in losing the man that guided the club to their second Premier League title in three years.

The Italian is now expected to sign a new deal worth around £9.6m a year that will run until 2021, two years beyond the expiration date of his current contract.

Conte’s family remained in Italy for the whole of this season but will move to England before the start of August, which is believed to have played a huge role in ensuring the 46-year-old will stay at Chelsea.

The Blues missed out on a Premier League and FA Cup double after losing 2-1 to Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday but it has still been a season beyond anyone’s expectations for the club.

Chelsea finished seven points clear of nearest rivals Tottenham in the Premier League.
