West Ham bid for Chelsea defender

West Ham have entered the race to sign Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Chelsea are looking to offload Zouma to accomodate the arrival of highly rated Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

Thomas Tuchel's side are locked in talks with Sevilla about the 22-year-old and have even proposed sending Zouma in the opposite direction to bring his price down.

However, Zouma is settled in London with his family and is far from thrilled at being used as a bargaining piece to sign another player.

The 26-year-old has entered the final two years of his current Chelsea contract and West Ham are targeting a £25m move for the France international.

Zouma made a flying start to last season under Frank Lampard but eventually lost his place in the side under Thomas Tuchel and is now free to leave.

The Hammers completed the signing of Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday and are now looking to add his international team-mate, Zouma.

Zouma has only committed one error directly leading to an opposition goal in 99 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.
