Chelsea make move for star midfielder

Chelsea have made their move for Leicester City N’Golo Kante, reports the Telegraph.

The France international was an unused substitute in Sunday’s European Championship final, which Portugal won 1-0 at Les Bleus’ expense.

Interest in Kante is high, with Chinese Super League giants Shanghai SIPG the latest to try and tempt the 25-year-old away from the King Power Stadium.

Shanghai SIPG have reportedly lodged a £35m bid for Kante, with they hoping their superior financial power would convince he midfielder to move to China.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen on adding to the midfield and has identified Kante as a key player for the Blues next season as they look to make an immediate return to the Champions Legaue.

While the player has a £20m release clause, however, Leicester are inclined to sell to the highest bidder, which means Chelsea could pay upwards of £35m to secure his services.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all taking a liking to Kante, who also has admirers across the continent.

That comes as little surprise given he made more tackles (175) and interceptions (156) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues last season.
