Fenerbahce set to sign Tottenham flop

Fenerbahce have announced they on the verge of signing Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen on a season-long loan deal.

Janssen has dropped down the pecking order at Tottenham since the arrival of Fernando Llorente and the Netherlands international was even left out of the club’s 25-man squad for the Champions League.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino only ruled out Janssen’s departure on Thursday but the 23-year-old is now on his way to Istanbul to continue talks with the Turkish giants.

"Our club, in principle, has agreed with the player himself and his club on the loan of the Dutch national team striker Vincent Janssen from the Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur,” read a statement on Fenerbahce’s official website.

“The 23-year-old will arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12:30 today and negotiations will continue in Istanbul.”

Janssen only joined Tottenham 12 months ago, but the Dutchman has failed to make any impact at the club since his £17m switch from AZ Alkmaar.

Fenerbahce, who are looking to sign a striker before the close of Friday’s deadline, were hopeful of signing Diego Costa on loan until January but talks with Chelsea collapsed.

Of the six goals Janssen scored for Tottenham in all competitions last season, only two came from open play.
