Everton manager confirms Sigurdsson deal is close

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed the club are close to signing Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Toffees have been one of the busiest sides in the transfer window this summer and have already spent nearly £100m on new players, but Koeman is still targeting at least three more signings.

Sigurdsson has been heavily linked with a move away from Swansea all summer and Everton are now in advanced talks with their league rivals as they close in on a deal worth in the region of £45m.

Koeman has already broke Everton’s club-transfer record this summer when they paid £30m for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and is now on course to shatter that fee for the Iceland international.

“Everybody knows we are looking for three more players – a left centre-back, a left full-back, a player who can play out of both positions, a winger and a striker and that’s the picture, what the best is for our team and we will see what we can do,” Koeman told Sky Sports.

“We are close [on Sigurdsson], we have to wait. But still, the deal is not done.”

Sigurdsson is coming off a thoroughly impressive indivdiual campaign for Swansea despite the fact Paul Clement’s side battled relegation all season.

In fact, the 27-year-old has made more key passes from set-piece situations (105) than any other player in the last three Premier League campaigns.
