Manchester United to reignite interest in Napoli defender

Manchester United are ready to reignite their interest in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, reports Gazzetta dello Sport via The Daily Express.

United have previously courted Koulibaly and were linked with a move for the Senegal star in January 2019, but were priced out of a move for the centre-back.

However, Koulibaly is keen on a change in scenary, though he won't force a move away from the Partenopei.

And while United had supposedly cooled their interest in the 28-year-old, Liverpool have reportedly emerged as potential suitors for Koulibaly as a replacement for Dejan Lovren.

The Croat is expected to leave the Reds this summer and they have been linked with a host of defenders to cover Lovren's exit, including Real Sociedad's Diego Llorente.

Liverpool's interest in Koulibaly, coupled with Napoli lowering their asking price in the defender, has kicked United back into gear.

The Coronavirus pandemic means the Naples outfit have dropped their fee for Koulibaly to a more affordable £62m.

Injury has restricted Koulibaly to just 14 league starts and that has contributed to a fall in asking price.
