Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye as his ideal replacement for Ander Herrera, claims the London Evening Standard.
Herrera is reportedly on the verge of agreeing a Bosman transfer to Paris Saint-Germain after contract talks with United broke down.
The 29-year-old is keen to stay at United but Solskjaer’s side are not willing to match the terms being offered by PSG, which is reportedly £200,000-a-week.
Solskjaer wants to replace Herrera with someone with Premier League experience and believes Gueye is the perfect choice.
Gueye was incidentally heavily linked with a move to PSG in January and was desperate to join the Ligue 1 giants.
Everton blocked Gueye’s departure midway through the season and will now have to brace themselves for interest from United in the summer.
Since the beginning of last season, only Leicester ace Wilfried Ndidi (379) has won moe tackles and interceptions combined than Gueye (364) in the Premier League.
