Tottenham confident of landing Everton youngster

Tottenham are leading the race to sign Everton youngster Ross Barkley this summer, reports the Daily Mail.

The England international has a little over a year left to run on his current contract at Goodison Park and while he isn’t against remaining on Merseyside, Barkley recently revealed that it is his ambition to win trophies and play in the Champions League.

Barkley’s form has improved in 2017 after a dip in performance levels earlier in the campaign, which has prompted speculation that Spurs will return for the young attacker at the end of the season.

His fine showings saw him earn a recall to the England squad for upcoming meetings with Germany and Lithuania, with he included in the national squad for the first time since the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 campaign.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is concerned over whether the 23-year-old and compatriot Dele Alli can play in the same team together, but his recent good form is believed to have convinced the Argentine boss to make a move for the creator.

What’s more is Everton manager Ronald Koeman last week hinted that Barkley could be sold in the summer if he opts against extending his current contract rather than risk losing him on a free, stating: “He needs to sign a new contract or you sell the player.”
