West Bromwich Albion have submitted a club record £18m bid to sign Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin in January, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Schneiderlin, 27, is free to leave United when the transfer window re-opens after making no impression on Jose Mourinho since he replaced Louis van Gaal at the end of last season.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move to Everton as Ronald Koeman seeks to strengthen his midfield, but West Brom are the first to step up their interest with an official bid.
Tony Pulis’ side are willing to surpass the £13m they paid Tottenham to sign Nacer Chadli in the summer in order to land the United outcast. The Baggies have made a fine start to the season and are currently only one point off seventh placed Southampton.
Schneiderlin’s lack of game time at United has been frustrating for some supporters as his defensively qualities in midfield are unique from any other player in the current squad.
In fact, since joining United from Southampton at the start of last season, the Red Devils have actually got a better win ratio in the league when he has started (56%) compared to when he has been absent from the XI (43.3%).
