Belgium international major doubt for the Euros

Liverpool striker Divock Origi is unlikely to play any part in the European Championships in the summer after suffering ankle ligament damage against Everton in midweek, reports AS.

Origi, 21, was on the receiving end of a horror tackle from Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over their city rivals and the young Belgian striker was stretchered off after minutes of medical attention.

The former Lille frontman had just hit full stride after becoming an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans in recent weeks and is a hammer blow for the striker, who is now expected to be sidelined for the next six weeks.

A decision whether or not to operate on the injury has been postponed by Liverpool until next week, but Origi will certainly not be fit in time for the start of the Euros in June.

Origi has scored five goals in his last five outings for Liverpool and only four players are averaging fewer minutes per goal in the Premier League in 2016 than the Liverpool youngster (99.8 mins).
