FA charge Manchester United star with violent conduct

The Football Association have announced they have charged Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic with violent conduct following an incident in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

Ibrahimovic appeared to elbow Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings in the face just before half time, which was missed by referee Kevin Friend but picked up on video replays.

The FA have also announced that Mings has also been charged with the same offence after appearing to stamp on Ibrahimovic’s head while the 35-year-old was on the floor.

While Ibrahimovic is expected to be handed a three-game ban, which would rule him out of a FA Cup clash with Chelsea and Premier League games against West Brom and Bournemouth, Mings could face the prospect of a longer ban after an additional claim was lodged by the FA to extend his ban.

“Furthermore, The FA has submitted a claim that the standard punishment that would otherwise apply for the misconduct committed by the Bournemouth defender is ‘clearly insufficient’,’ a statement read on the FA’s official website.

“Both players have until 6pm on Tuesday 7 March 2017 to reply to their charge.”

Ibrahimovic has been phenomenal for United since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and his loss presents a massive blow to United’s chances of finishing in the top four.

In fact, only four players have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Ibrahimovic (15).
