PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW: Leaders Leicester First up for Benitez

It’s a depleted week of Premier League action, with just five matches due to the participation of those still in the FA Cup, though Monday night’s game arguably offers up the most intrigue. Not only are shock league leaders Leicester aiming to strengthen their title bid but they are hosting a Newcastle side under new management in the form of Rafa Benitez.

Many are surprised that the former Champions League winning boss has taken on the task of steering the Magpies to safety but the Spaniard’s desperation to manage in the Premier League once more worn out. He must remedy the fact that Newcastle have scored fewer away goals (7) than any team in England’s top four divisions against a Leicester side unbeaten in 10 at the King Power Stadium.

Elsewhere it could be curtains for Aston Villa this weekend - if it isn’t already - if they fail to upset the odds against Spurs. Mauricio Pochettino’s title hopefuls may not be at their best after two gruelling games in a week against Arsenal and Dortmund but with Harry Kane rested against the latter he will hope to put his name firmly in the mix for the Golden Boot (currently on 17) against the league’s weakest defence (55 conceded).

Elsewhere it’s another top versus bottom clash as Manchester City travel to Carrow Road. Manuel Pellegrini’s side can’t afford to drop any more points if they are to revive their title challenge and will be confident of doing just that against a Canaries outfit that have picked up just one point from the last 27 available and are sliding back towards the Championship.
